Princess Festival

Arnold had some free tickets to the Princess Festival he received at work. He works with the organizers to help promote the event...as he does with all events in Utah County, so he wanted to take Reese so he could see what the event was like...also because I didn't want to go. I didn't think I could take hours of princesses.

It's funny because Reese is far from Princess crazy. She does love princesses on some days, but the next you might find her playing Lego Ninjago, pony's, barbies, or with her train set. She's fairly well rounded. I wasn't sure what she'd think of the festival.

Reese is not shy at all...in fact she seems to be more and more outgoing the older she gets. Arnold said she walked right up to all the princesses and asked them all kinds of questions. In the group discussions, Reese was front and center leading the questions and answers. When she got home she was full of stories and detailed descriptions of all the princesses she met. I think she had a great time.

When Arnold got home he declared, "I really don't get women."  I assured him that with his 3 most favorite people in the whole world being women...he'd have a lifetime to learn.

Yes, that's Reese front and Center talking to the princesses.

Another good shot of her "front and center" postion.

Time Out!

She looks so sweet and innocent...doesn't she??

IMG_7513

But this sweet little face is a devil in disguise! Anni's become quite the little trouble maker these days. I know she's just exploring her boundaries and testing the limits of those around her, but she can be trouble with a capital "T". When ever I tell her "no" or try to gently scold her, she literally laughs in my face. Somewhere along the line she's come to think the word "no" is funny. As a result she's also learning what a time out is. At first she thought it was some kind of fun game, but she is quickly learning that time outs are not fun.

While it breaks my heart that my sweet little baby is already old enough for discipline...Reese thinks it's so wonderful that Anni is finally being held accountable for her naughtiness.

Why does time go so quickly...I'd like to give "growing up" a big "time-out"!

5 years!

We've been so busy with summer fun that this post is a little late...but...better late than never!

This year Arnold and I celebrated our 5 year Anniversary! In many ways 5 years has gone so fast, but in a very good way, it also seems like we've been married forever. Both Arnold and I waited a long time to find each other, but I think I speak for both of us when I say...it was worth the wait.

We once said that we'd go back to Hawaii for our 5 year anniversary...well...2 sweet little girls later we settled for San Diego and Sea World...with the kids.  Now we're hoping Hawaii on the 10 year...maybe sooner if things go as we're planning. We also went to dinner and Arnold took me shopping. Not many men would spend their Anniversary shopping with their wife, but Arnold even held my bags.  See...totally worth the wait.

Here's a little look back...

Not boy crazy yet...

Discussion with Reese last Saturday afternoon...

Reese: Mom I so bored. I want to play with friends.
Me: Sorry honey your friends can't play right now.
Reese: How about I go to Rowan's house?
Me: Rowan left with her mom to run errands.
Reese: How about I call Lucy?
Me: Remember Lucy just left to go to a birthday party at her cousins house.
Reese: How about I see if Brynn can play?
Me: Honey we were just outside with Brynn, and remember she was going inside to take a rest.
Reese: (She thinks for a minute, then responds rather disgusted) Fine...I guess I just play with a boy! How about Gavin and Tyler?

Crap!

The other night Reese and Anni made a huge mess at dinner; scattering rice and peas all over the floor. After dinner I told Reese she needed to help me clean up the mess under and around her chair....

Reese: Mom you gonna help me clean up my mess?
Me: (on my hands and knee's under Anni's highchair) As soon as I finish cleaning up all Anni's crap.

A few minutes later as I come over to help her...

Reese: Mom you finished cleaning up Anni's crap mess?
Me: (Realizing I really need to watch the words I use around my girls) Yes honey, I'm going to help you now.
Reese: Look mom I almost done cleaning up my crap mess.

After we finished...

Reese: Look mom, no more crap mess all over!

Yep...I really do need to stop using the word CRAP!

The simple things...

Arnold was cleaning out the garage and Reese wanted to help. We told her she could wash all her bikes and various modes of transportation. Five minutes in she said...

"Mom this is the funnest thing I've ever done!"

For the records...

ANNISTON
anni 2

Anni has changed so much in the last couple months. It doesn't really surprise me, Reese did the exact same thing after her first birthday. It's like their true personalities decide to surface, holding nothing back.

A few things to remember...
  • It's no surprise that Anni loves her big sister. She follows her around everywhere and wants to do everything Reese does. But she also knows how to stand her ground with Reese. She doesn't hesitate to make her feelings known and to milk the "baby sister" role for all it's worth. While she can't say much, she has her own way of tattling on Reese and giving me the saddest little "Mommy, Reese isn't being nice" face.
  • Anni understands just about everything I say to her. For the most part she's pretty obedient...and when she's not she knows it! She loves to give me a little guilty smirk before she high-tales it out of my grasp. While she may be fast...she's not too fast for mom just yet.
  • She LOVES baby dolls. She's usually carrying one around, snuggling it. She also loves to push around the toy baby stroller...or ride in the toy baby stroller while Reese pushes her around the house. This always results in a lot of squealing and laughing, with the occasional accident and crying.
  • Anni is a huge music fan. Anytime she can hear music...even in the faintest background, she will start to bust a move. She can even be in the midst of a full blown tantrum and all I have to do is turn on some music and those little shoulders start to bounce. Slowly she'll stop crying as the groove moves through her. I need to get this on video, because it's pretty funny.
  • Anni isn't quite as good of a healthy eater as Reese has always been, but interestingly Anni has turned out to be a much more adventuresome eater. While she may snub her nose at several vegetables and fruits, she's a lover of all things spicy and flavorful. Favorites include Mexican and Indian food.

REESE
Reese 4

There's nothing that sums up our little Reese like the words that come right out of her mouth...

Reese has been learning her more advanced colors, like the difference between Navy blue and baby blue, or light yellow and mustard yellow. We had just talked about shades of purple the day before this conversation.

Reese: Mom can I wear my violent panties with these shorts?
Me: (I had my back to her and hadn't really heard her because I was changing Anni's diaper) What did you say Reese?
Reese: I really really want to wear these violent panties, but I not know if they match my shorts.
Me: (trying to keep a straight face)Yes Reese. Yes you can wear those violet panties with those shorts. They don't have to match because they're under your clothes.
Reese: Yea!! I really really like these violent panties mom!

The other day Reese kept making excuses for everything I asked her to do. All her excuses revolved around her body hurting in one way or another. "I can't pick up my toys because my arms are hurting mom." "I can't go get my shoes because my legs are hurting." etc... until I got sick of the excuses.

Mom: Reese if I hear you complain about your body hurting one more time today, we will be canceling the neighborhood swim party tomorrow.
Reese: NO NO MOM!!! I want to swim and play with friends!
Mom: Well if your body is hurting so much, it can't swim or play with friends.
Reese: But but but mom, my body only hurt when it has work! It feels better when it time to play.
Mom: (in my head) I know...convenient isn't it!

Me: Reese what are you doing out of bed?
Reese: Umm mine elephant not want to go to bed. I say to him he has to go time out. So I put him in time out and I sit and watch tv while he in time out. Ok mom?
Me: (trying not to laugh) Ok.

TWO MINUTES LATER...

Me: ok I think you need to go get elephant out of time out and go to bed.

Reese walks over to the time out chair...

Reese: Oh mom he say he still not want to go to bed so I put him in time out again. I guess I just have to watch tv more.
Me: Really? How many time outs do you think he's going to need before he's ready to go to bed?
Reese: probably lots mom.

Reese: What you doing mom?
Me: I'm coloring my hair.
Reese: But it not look colored, it just look brown.
Me: Well I'm just coloring it brown. The same color I always color it.
Reese: (very upset) But I not like brown. It sooo boring mom. I want you to color it purple, or yellow, or a fun color. I not like brown!
Me: I had no idea you had such a strong opinion about the color of my hair.
Reese: Well I have opinion mom!

I Woke up this morning sick and throwing up...

Reese: Mom, I really not like you throwing up so much. It really gross mom!
Me: Why don't you go watch cartoons honey. You don't need to watch me.
Reese: I know mom, but somebody gotta take care of you. And Daddy at work...(letting out a big sigh) so I gotta do it.

After Reese did something I had asked her not to...

Me: Reese, what am I going to do with you??
Reese: you just gonna love me mom!

Soooo true!

There really are no words for how much I love these two girls! I feel so blessed to be their mom and to spend everyday watching them learn, grow and become the beautiful people I know they are!

Conquering Cali...

Day #1 - Here we go!
Movie playing, snacks in hand...they have no idea the long road ahead, but Reese and Anni were so excited to sit next to each other.

Photobucket)

Luckily these two little munchkins turned out to be great little travelers! We made it all the way to Vegas with only one stop, and in record time.

This is the "happy to be out of our car seats" dance! They both ran around the hotel room, touching and getting into everything...there was quite a bit of penned up energy.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Some of the days highlights...
  • Discovering that the speed limits have been increased to 80 mph on several of the long stretches of highway, not that I haven't been driving 80 mph for years...but hey...now I'm legal! Clearly I need to get out of "the Valley" more often.
  • Watching Reese have her own little dance party in her car seat...and watching Anni mimic her every move.
  • Realizing IPads are the greatest invention ever...for entertaining 3 1/2 year old's on a long car ride.
  • Seeing a big truck completely engulfed in flames on the side of the highway!
  • Pumping my own gas for the first time in like 2 or 3 years. What can I say...Arnold really spoils me and always keeps my car full of gas. I hadn't realized it had been so long. I had kind of forgotten what I was doing...Arnold just sat in the car and laughed at me the whole time.
  • Remembering how awesome it is to people watch on the Las Vegas strip...but not necessarily for children. Luckily Reese was so enthralled with her new M & M fan that she didn't notice.
On another little side note Reese was slightly baffled by the concept of a hotel. It has been almost 2 years since we've stayed in one and I don't think she remembers. Some of her funny hotel quotes...

As we were loading the car this morning she asked, "Mom, we taking so many clothes. How we gonna get dressed at Sea World. We just gonna do it outside?"

When we walked into the hotel room for the first time, she questioned, "Where all the toys in this crazy place?"

Her favorite part of our hotel room...the coffee table. She thinks its the best invention ever! She enjoyed laying on it while she watched TV. She told me, "It's a little baby table just my size mom!"

All in all...day 1 was a success. Arnold and Reese spent the afternoon swimming while mommy and Anni took a nap. Then we headed to the M & M factory and out to dinner.

I thought this was a funny picture. Check our Reese's face..."who's the crazy in the M & M suit?"

Fun "Vegas" shots!

You gotta love the Statue of Liberty hailing above palm trees...so unnatural.

On to day 2...

Day #2 - "Are we there yet?!!...please say yes!!"

I should have known...with day 1 having gone so perfectly well...that it couldn't possibly be that easy...nothing ever is...right?? It began at 4 a.m. with Arnold throwing up! Yes, the lovely 24 hour bug that struck me last Wednesday was laying wait in Arnold...ready to strike. I guess I should just be grateful it was a 24 hour bug (at least we hope), but oh what a lovely 24 hours it has been.

You mom's out there know exactly what this meant for me...single mom traveling with 3 children...yes I said 3...one of which was sick. I got the girls up, fed, dressed, car loaded, all three kids loaded, and hit the road headed to San Diego...a 6 hour drive (1 stop) of non-cruise control driving. Non-cruise control because the traffic was a nightmare! I swear that every person who had been partying in Vegas for the weekend was now headed back to LA. And I'm not sure what they teach in drivers ed in Cali...but it was frustratingly apparent that the "left lane passing lane, right lane for slower vehicles" concept is completely lost to the average California driver. The freeway resembled more of free for all rat race. After 6 hours I could hardly move my right leg. Luckily "sicky" slept most the way, and the girls both took a good nap in the middle. But the last hour or so all I heard from from doodle (Reese)...about every 2 minutes... was, "Are we there yet?!! Please say yes mom!!" and from noodle (Anni) a loud ear piercing, head pounding scream...not out of frustration...just because she thinks it funny...but it's not...someone should tell her! If you speak 1 year old, I could use your services.

We arrived at our hotel around 3 p.m. I unloaded the 3 kids, unloaded all the luggage, unpacked everyone, and cleaned everyone up. Anni had a bad case of licoriceitis; the condition of red licorice stickiness covering the entire body. Occurring in 1 year olds when given to much red licorice in hopes of bribing said 1 year old to stop screaming. Arnold took a nap while I tried, with every bit of the last ounce of patience and energy I had, to entertain the girls while he slept. It isn't an easy task in a small hotel suite, with no toys. Luckily Reese had the ipad, but Anni was a whole different story.

Luckily when Arnold woke up he was feeling a little better. We made it out to dinner and to the grocery store to pick up some essecials, then back to the hotel room for the girls bed time. It's been one of the longest days of my life. It's 9 p.m and I'm the only one still awake. But in the end I'm grateful that, of all the days, Arnold got sick on this one. We're just praying that this really is the same 24 hour bug, and he'll wake up tomorrow as good as new...and that neither of the girls decide to get this in the next 5 days.

Pray for us!!

The only picture from today...Anni's licoriceitis...if only the pictures did it justice. She had licorice all over her tummy, her legs, the bottom of her feet...everywhere.

Day #3 - Our prayers were answered!

Arnold woke up feeling great! My prayers were answered and our vacation could now proceed as planned. So...with everyone in one piece, be headed to Sea World!

One of our first stops was the Penguin House...Reese loves penguins.

Photobucket

Anni spent most of her time in the stroller. We let her out every now and then.

Photobucket

The "big" show of the day...Shamu! I don't know what I was thinking when I agreed to sit in the "soak" zone.
Photobucket

We did get awesome photo's though. We were right up front.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

...but we also got really really really wet! I'm not sure we could have gotten more wet if we had just jumped in the water. You may notice that Anni didn't get as wet as everyone else...well that's because mommy turned her back to protect Anni, therefore mommy's entire backside was drenched.  Lucky for the girls I brought them a change of clothes...too bad I didn't think to bring some for me. Arnold and I dried off eventually though.

Photobucket

Reese loved all the rides! This girl has no fear. The bigger thrill...the better.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Her favorite ride of all...the rollercoaster. I've got a great picture of her face taken with the Sea World camera...I'll post it as soon as I can get our scanner to work.

Reese was allowed to pick one stuffed animal to buy...She loves her new little penguin. She named him Jumpy Jump.

I can never resist taking pictures of this little blue eyed face!

Day #4 - Change of plans

Originally we had planned to head back to Sea Word for day 4, but when we looked at the weather report we realized that Tuesday was going to be the hottest and sunniest day we would be in San Diego. As a result we changed our plans and headed to the beach...and it was a good choice. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.

Reese patiently waiting to leave...do you think she's ready??

Photobucket

Mommy & Reese...toes in sand...this is heaven!

Photobucket

La Jolla Cove...my new favorite place!

Photobucket

Anni loved sitting on the blanket and playing on the beach...

Photobucket

Photobucket

...but she was a little baffaled by the sand. She wasn't sure if she should eat it or play with it.

Photobucket

Anni definitely didn't like the sound of the ocean. She kind of feaked out any time she got too close to the water.

Photobucket

Reese, on the other hand, loved the ocean!

Photobucket

And again, as you can tell, Anni wasn't a fan.

Photobucket

Reese and daddy had a great time playing in the water...

Photobucket

Photobucket

...building sand castels...

Photobucket

Photobucket

...and collecting sea shells.

Photobucket

After a long day at the beach we were walking back to the car. We came around a little bend in the path and I looked up. There was the most beautiful scene in front of me. The crashing waves against a rocky shore. The sky was bright blue and the smell of the ocean...I stopped to take it all in. Arnold stopped as well. He put his arm around me and we just stood there for a minute. Reese stopped as well and turned to look at us...

Reese: What you guys doing?
Me: Just looking at the beautiful coastline.
Arnold: Mommy and daddy love the ocean.
Me: Ya Reese, it's romantic.
Reese: (rolling her eyes) ya ya...let's go guys!

Day #5 - More of a good thing...

Back to Sea World for more Sea life and thrilling fun!

Day #6 - The long road ahead.

I can't believe our vacation is almost over. It went way too fast. Day 6 started with the treck back to Vegas for one last night of fun.

We started at the Bellagio for the fountain show. We thought the girls would get a kick out of it.

Photobucket

They thought it was pretty cool. I forgot how short the show is though. Then we headed to Cesars palace for some dinner at the Cheesecake factory, then back to the hotel for a little late night swim. It was a great end to our day.

Day #7 - Home Sweet Home

We got up this morning and headed home to Utah. After 7 days the girls were still great travelers, but very happy to finally get home. We had the best vacation!

Everything's unpacked, put away, and laundry is done. It almost feels like a dream. I can hardly wait until next summer...Disney Land...here we come!

Some cool black and whites from the trip...
